The Elephant Detectives

PreS-Gr 2–A somewhat peculiar small boy named Adam owns an elephant. His adventures with his elephant include going for a ride on his elephant, having caramel ice cream, enjoying holding a balloon. But when the balloon blows away, after a failed attempt to retrieve it, Adam finds himself stuck in a tree. When he gets down, the elephant has vanished. Enter Edie, who presents herself as an elephant detective. They follow alleged clues to the library, the movies, an air tram, and a boat. Confession? Edie isn’t an elephant detective but happily, Adam’s elephant was never really lost. Children will enjoy the adventures of the protagonists and be tickled by the presence of the elephant on every page, hidden from Edie and Adam. Adamson’s illustrations depict a big city where anything is possible, and readers will find plenty to pore over on every read.
