PreS-Gr 2–A gentle story of friendship and companionship. A rabbit (la conejita Lola) and a dog (el perro Simón) live side by side. Lola lives in a blue house that matches her blue fur. Her home is cozy and welcoming; most of her belongings having a bunny element to them, down to the blue reading lamp with ears. Simón’s house is red and equally cozy and well suited to him. Though aware of each other, they do not interact; the two go about their lives alone and contented. Lola likes to draw and drink chocolate; Simón likes to knit and eat biscuits. Then one evening, as they are both outside looking at the stars and each wondering whether the other might be lonely and needing a friend, they see a shooting star. The shared experience brings them together and a close friendship starts. First published in English as On the Night of the Shooting Star, the Spanish translation is faithful to the warm, spare text of the original.
