It doesn't get much bigger in YA than Wednesday's announcement: Authors Dhonielle Clayton, Tiffany D. Jackson, Nic Stone, Angie Thomas, Ashley Woodfolk, and Nicola Yoon have collaborated on a YA novel celebrating Black love during a New York City power outage. Blackout is scheduled to be released in June 2021.

The writers shared their excitement on Twitter.

"Absolutely thrilled to announce that I’m writing a novel with some of my favorite people ever. Get ready for Blackout!" Thomas tweeted. "Secret’s out! And so are the lights!"

During the pandemic, most people have been stress eating and spending endless hours on Zoom, but these women got to work.

"Why yes I DID write a book with my friends during quarantine," tweeted Nic Stone.

Entertainment Weekly confirmed the news and added details: "Blackout is a novel made up of six interlinked stories celebrating Black love. The premise centers on a citywide power outage in New York, with the blackout throwing residents into a tailspin and bringing up new romantic relationships, friendships, and all kinds of hidden truth," the article said, with Clayton calling the book a love letter to New York City and Black teens.

Yoon described the book's tales as "swoony love stories with Black kids falling for each other," and Clayton shared a trailer that teased, “Don’t miss summer love during a sweltering power outage in New York City.”

Tweeted fellow author Jason Reynolds: "My peoples did a thing. A big thing. And it’s fire."
