Gr 5 Up –Jessica Cox was born without arms, and this documentary traces her journey, beginning as an angry, frustrated child. As time went on, she embraced her differences, eventually becoming a renowned motivational speaker as an adult as well as a disabilities activist traveling the globe. The program highlights Cox’s amazing ability to use her feet in place of her hands to do everything from opening a soda can to applying makeup, and the title comes from her joke that she is “right footed” while writing with her feet—she also learned to pilot airplanes. The film’s focal point is Cox’s work advocating for people with disabilities in Ethiopia and the Philippines and rallying Congress to pass the United Nations Convention on the Rights of People with Disabilities in 2013. The most affecting segments feature Cox meeting with children with disabilities across the globe. Her ability to carry out both everyday and extraordinary acts emphasizes the power of determination. This upbeat film is an introduction to a very important topic. VERDICT An inspiring and engaging selection that’s likely to spark conversation.–
