'When You Can Swim,' 'Warrior Girl Unearthed' and 'Sunshine' Win 2023 Boston Globe-Horn Book Awards

The titles by Jack Wong, Angeline Boulley, and Jarrett J. Krosoczka earned the annual award in the picture book, fiction and poetry, and nonfiction categories, respectively.

The 2023 Boston Globe-Horn Book Award winners were announced on Tuesday, June 20. The annual award is given in three categories: picture book; fiction and poetry; and nonfiction.

The awards are chosen by an independent panel of three judges appointed by the Horn Book editor in chief. The 2023 Boston Globe–Horn Book Awards judges were: chair Erica Marks, senior director of outreach and programming at Cleveland (OH) Public Library; Martha V. Parravano, contributing editor, The Horn Book, Inc., and Roger Sutton, editor in chief emeritus, The Horn Book, Inc.
