The 2023 Boston Globe-Horn Book Award winners were announced on Tuesday, June 20. The annual award is given in three categories: picture book; fiction and poetry; and nonfiction.

This year's winners and honor titles are:

PICTURE BOOK

• Choosing Brave: How Mamie Till-Mobley and Emmett Till Sparked the Civil Rights Movement by Angela Joy; illus. by Janelle Washington 

The awards are chosen by an independent panel of three judges appointed by the Horn Book editor in chief. The 2023 Boston Globe–Horn Book Awards judges were: chair Erica Marks, senior director of outreach and programming at Cleveland (OH) Public Library; Martha V. Parravano, contributing editor, The Horn Book, Inc., and Roger Sutton, editor in chief emeritus, The Horn Book, Inc.
