On St. Patrick's Day, March 17, approximately 30 new teacher librarians (some decked out in green) gathered in the school library of New York City's P.S. 192/Jacob H. Schiff Elementary for training and development administered by the New York City Department of Education's (DOE) Library Services. School Library Journal's editor-in-chief Rebecca Miller and Junior Library Guild's resident book talker Leslie Bermel were on hand at the event to talk to the up-and-comers about book reviews, collection development, professional trends, and education news—and some of the ways to use School Library Journal and Junior Library Guild to aid their growth and professional development. Plus, there was free swag—every librarian in attendance received a free year's subscription of School Library Journal magazine, courtesy of the NYC DOE.School Library Journal editor-in-chief Rebecca Miller talks to a group of new teacher librarians during a day of professional development.
