The Buried Bones Mystery by Sharon Draper (Aladdin, 2011)
The “Clubhouse Mystery” series features easy chapter books starring African American friends and sleuths. In this opener, they find bones buried beneath their new clubhouse. Where did they come from?

Dinotopia: A Land Apart from Time by James Gurney (Calla, 2011)
For those enchanted by a world where humans and Pokemon live side by side, Dinotopia, set on an island where humans and intelligent dinosaurs coexist, will be a hit.

The Field Guide: The Spiderwick Chronicles by Holly Black & Tony DiTerlizzi (S. & S., 2003)
This series starter introduces the Grace children, who discover a field guide of magical creatures.

A Dog’s Journey (May)
A sequel to A Dog’s Purpose (2017), this family movie stars a dog who finds meaning in life from the humans he interacts with.

Dash by Kirby Larson (Scholastic, 2014)
Mitsi Kashino knows that she can always count on her dog Dash to be there for her, even when WWII anti-Japanese sentiment rears its ugly head. When the Kashinos are forced to go to an internment camp, Dash can’t come. Tugs all the heartstrings.

Maxi’s Secrets by Lynn Plourde (Nancy Paulsen, 2016)
Timminy, a small fifth grader getting pushed around at school, and Maxi, a deaf Great Pyrenees puppy, make a great pair. A feel-good story whose protagonist overcomes adversity with a lovable pup.

Ribsy by Beverly Cleary (Morrow, 1964)
Get a dog’s-eye view of the world in this classic about a scrappy dog separated from his boy Henry and desperate to get back. A gentle story with a happy ending.

The Sun Is Also a Star (May 2019)
YA fans will fall in love with science-minded Natasha and dreamer Daniel, brought together by fate and working against the clock.

History Is All You Left Me by Adam Silvera (Soho, 2017)
For teens who prefer their love stories on the heart-wrenching side, this novel brings the feels. Silvera captures that pain of losing your first love as Griffin mourns the end of his first relationship.

Nick & Norah’s Infinite Playlist by David Levithan and Rachel Cohn (Knopf, 2006)
This similarly fast-paced story plunges Nick and Norah into an accidental first date after Nick asks Norah to pretend to be his girlfriend for five minutes to avoid his ex. Unfolds over the course of one day.

Pride by Ibi Zoboi (HarperCollins, 2018)
Brooklyn girl Zuri wants nothing to do with the gentrifying Darcy family that moves in across the street. This modern Pride and Prejudice brings together two teens from different worlds in a New York City story.

Artemis Fowl (August)
Adapted from the 2001 novel, this crime-caper fantasy story features a boy-genius protagonist.

The 1981 Alvin Schwartz classic that terrified tots hits the big screen.
