Austin, TX, illustrator and comic artist Carina Guevara did the honors for our March 2022 issue featuring women's history in graphic novels.
We turned to Austin, TX, illustrator and comic artist Carina Guevara for our March 2022 cover on women's history in graphic novels.
Guevara contributed to one of the books we spotlighted in the article: DC Comics’ "Wonderful Women of the World," created as sequential art to mirror the genre. The Audre Lorde quote, "I am not free while any woman is unfree, even when her shackles are very different from my own." wends through the panels, and accompanies a young woman browsing the stacks. Another teen reads historian Rebecca Hall's Wake: The Hidden History of Women-Led Slave Revolts, another recommendation by Brigid Alverson, who wrote our cover story.
