Got an Idea for the SLJ Summit? Pitch Us.

School Library Journal wants you. This year, we’re looking to crowdsource two sessions for the SLJ Summit set for Thursday, October 28.

Now in its 17th year, SLJ’s flagship gathering will be virtual as it was in 2020, when the free, day-long event—featuring a range of thought-provoking sessions, opportunities for discussion, and practical takeaway for librarians and other educators—drew nearly 8,000 registrants.

Our theme in 2021: “In Community.”

Proposals are welcome for sessions from 20-40 minutes in length. Topics can run the gamut of audience interest and SLJ’s editorial coverage, and the format is flexible, from panels of up to four speakers to single presenters. In our experience, the most well-received sessions are information rich and offer fresh ideas and perspectives, with specific actionables, how-to instruction, and/or resources, providing a worthwhile experience for attendees.

Summit sessions thus far will cover:

  • Reading in Community
  • Antiracism and Culturally Responsive Teaching
  • Move Over, Melvil!
  • Mobile Outreach: Rolling into the Future
  • Drawing from Life: Revisiting Our Pasts Through Graphic Memoir

While programs needn’t hew to the conference theme, they should be original and not duplicate previous presentations or those planned for another event.

Finally, we ask presenters to disclose, if any, relationships to vendors or their products, as it relates to the content of the proposal.

Ready? Send your session ideas to slj@mediasourceinc.com, with the subject line: “SLJ Summit.”
