How frustrating for SLJ to recommend a tool to replace one of the most human-to-human connection part of our jobs. Every book recommended here is by a white author about white characters and already very popular. Using AI to choose readalikes and book recommendations will not help recommend books that are diverse, underrated, or even quality. That's our job as librarians and collection evaluators and it's embarassing to suggest it's not.

Couldn't agree more! Thank you for voicing this. The examples in this article perfectly illustrate why AI is not appropriate for the task. The suggestions are non-diverse, already well-known, and old. I can't imagine these suggestions being genuinely helpful to either librarian or reader.
