Axel Scheffler's Pets and creatures have flip flapped on a Farm, through the Jungle, and on Safari. Now children can join the join them under the sea. As in the other series  productions, in Axel Scheffler's Flip Flap Ocean (Nosy Crow, iOS, $.99; PreS-Gr 3) viewers can scroll through images of familiar creatures. Each animal—from a crab and lobster to a squid and seal—is accompanied by a poem that adds a few details about the underwater denizen. (On the jellyfish: "I'm mostly made of water so/I wobble to and fro./And deep beneath the ocean/I can make my body glow.") The real fun begins with the opportunity to mix and match the tops and bottoms of the 11 featured animals; all told, 121 combinations can be created  Along with the body parts, the respective portions of the animal's name and poem travel with the images fusing into new monikers and verses. (A whale and dolphin become a "wholphin," a crab and a fish a "crish"). Bold, bright colors highlight the creatures, while the large-print verse of varying font size is offered against a white background. Viewers can choose to read the text on their own, or have it read to them by a child narrator. A page for adults offers tips on how to "get the most from the app," along with information on the author and the print version of the title (Nosy Crow, 2017). A trailer is available.
