School Library Journal (SLJ) announces a new member of the reviews team: Andrew Eliopulos, who steps into a new position at the publication, graphic novels editor.

“The graphic novels market continues to explode, and we thought it was time that we expand our coverage, with intentionality and focus,” says reviews editor Shelley Diaz. “The format is such an important one for readers and librarians, and we’re excited to have Andrew spearhead this new, targeted approach.”

Eliopulos comes to SLJ after a 15-year career in children’s publishing, most recently at Harper Children’s Books, where he served as executive editor. Titles he has acquired and edited include such significant works as Newbery Medal Winner New Kid by Jerry Craft, National Book Award Finalist Nimona by N.D. Stevenson, and #1 New York Times bestseller They Both Die at the End by Adam Silvera.

He was honored with the Publishers Weekly Star Watch Award in 2016 and has published his own YA novel, The Fascinators (HarperTeen, 2020), and a middle grade novel, The Spider Ring (Scholastic, 2015).

"I'm honored and excited to be joining the talented team at SLJ in this new role, at a time when comics and graphic novels are enjoying immense popularity and facing increased public scrutiny. Working with creators as an editor, I saw firsthand the vital role librarians play in providing young readers with access to these books,” says Eliopulos. “I look forward to working collaboratively with the SLJ community to ensure librarians have the reviews and resources they need to serve their readers in this pivotal moment."
