The National Women's History Museum, National Education Association, Anti-Defamation League, and various federal institutions offer free resources, including lesson plans, for Women's History Month.
Educators looking for resources, lessons, and programming possibilities for Women's History Month and International Women's Day (March 8) can find plenty of free options online.
-
The National Women’s History Museum offers a Resource Toolkit 2022 with something to do each day of March. The museum’s website also has its ongoing educational resources, which includes lesson plans, biographies, posters, primary sources, and more. Three free downloadable posters spotlight successful women in STEM, women who have worked for equality in the paid labor force, and African American women who have fought for change and equality, as well as companion materials such as biographies of the women included on the posters. In addition, teachers can request a free, 30-minute virtual visit from a museum staff member.
- The National Education Association updated its Women’s History Month for the Classroom page. The organization offers lesson plans and activities, background reading, quizzes, and printable materials.
- WomensHistoryMonth.gov curated resources from the Library of Congress, National Archives, National Endowment for the Humanities, National Gallery of Art, and Smithsonian, offering a range of subjects and cross-curricular possibilities.
- The Anti-Defamation League's dedicated women’s history webpage offers lesson plans connected to its 2022 Women’s History Month theme: “Women Providing Healing, Promoting Hope.” There are lesson plans for elementary, middle, and high school students, covering topics including gender stereotypes and diversity and elections, as well as toys and gender, school dress codes, the U.S. women’s soccer team’s fight for equal pay, and sexism in gaming.
