This weekend, the New York Times reported that DC Comics will be starting two new imprints aimed at young readers. DC Zoom will be geared to middle school readers and DC Ink will focus on stories for young adults. The first books in each imprint will be released in the Fall of 2018.
While regulars in the comic books industry will write and draw for the imprints, they will also feature well known young adult authors, including Laurie Halse Anderson (Speak), Melissa de la Cruz (the Descendants series), Michael Northrop (TombQuest) and Ridley Pearson (the Kingdom Keepers series).
The first title for the DC Zoom imprint will be DC Super Hero Girls: Search for Atlantis, by Shea Fontana and Yancey Labat, while the DC Ink imprint will debut with a graphic novel by Mariko Tamaki and Steve Pugh that features supervillain Harley Quinn from the Batman universe.
The books will not have long story arcs or continuing sagas. While characters from the superhero universe will appear, the stories will focus on characters who are figuring out the world and personal identity.
