EveryLibrary has joined the School Library Journal (SLJ) Blog Network. “Politics in Practice,” penned by leadership and staff of the national library advocacy organization, is now live and humming on SLJ (politicsinpractice.slj.com).
Covering legislation, censorship, funding, and advocacy, “Politics in Practice” will encompass the full beat of the nonprofit (everylibrary.org), which solicits support for libraries—K–12, public, and academic—nationwide.
“Making the Case for School Libraries. Are You up to Date on the Research?” leads recent posts, along with practical guidance on countering book bans and advancing local library campaigns.
“EveryLibrary urges all of us who support libraries to engage the political sphere,” says Kathy Ishizuka, SLJ editor in chief and partnerships and innovation director of SLJ and Library Journal. “From surveying school board candidates for their stance on libraries to the importance of post-legislative advocacy, 'Politics in Practice' offers practical advice and encouragement for individuals and organizations alike to assume a meaningful place in the process.”
“It’s exciting to see how the SLJ/EveryLibrary partnership has continued to grow, and I’m thankful to have a place in the SLJ blog family where we can offer support to the school librarian community,” says John Chrastka, EveryLibrary executive director.

EveryLibrary is the first and only national organization dedicated to building voter support for libraries. We are chartered “to promote public, school, and college libraries, including by advocating in support of public funding for libraries and building public awareness of public funding initiatives”. Our primary work is to support local public libraries when they have a referendum or measure on the ballot, to support school librarians in crisis through our SaveSchoolLibrarians.org initiative, and to build a national network of Americans who will take action to create a better future for library funding at all levels of government.
School Library Journal (SLJ) is the premiere publication for librarians and information specialists who work with children and teens. A source of quality journalism and reviews for 70 years, SLJ produces award-winning coverage, from news and features to recommended books and resources, all geared to serve the library and greater educator community, with young readers in mind. We evaluate a broad range of material, from books and digital content to databases, in 6000+ reviews published annually.
