The titles are recognized for being of high interest to youth who are BIPOC, from street culture, in restrictive custody, and/or reluctant readers.
The 2023 In the Margins Book Awards have been announced.
The mission of In the Margins is “to seek out and highlight fiction and non-fiction titles of high-interest appeal for male or female readers, ages 9-21, who may fit into one or all of the following categories that identify with: BIPOC youth, youth from a street culture, youth in restrictive custody, and youth who are reluctant readers.”
The In the Margins Awards recognize a top title in fiction, nonfiction, and advocacy and social justice, as well as designating a Top 10 list of titles from all categories.
Top Title for Fiction: Ain’t Burned All the Bright by Jason Reynolds, illustrated by Jason Griffin
Top Title for Nonfiction: Jump: My Secret Journey from the Streets to the Boardroom by Larry Miller with Laila Lacy
Top Title for Advocacy and Social Justice: Don’t Forget Us Here: Lost and Found at Guantánamo by Mansoor Adayfi
