Gr 2-6–In the latest installment of the series, the authors coach kids on how to deal with their fears. This book has an astronaut theme to help young minds realize that adults are also exposed to situations that might be scary but are ultimately rewarding if they can overcome their fears. Each chapter uses an event that an astronaut might find intimidating, like an alarm or a difficult task. The authors use a parallel situation that a child may find distressing and give steps on coming to terms with the situation. The authors effectively explain situations to kids and empathize with them. There is a certificate of completion as back matter, and several workbook-type activities are included in each chapter. This may be of concern to libraries as patrons may be tempted to write in the book. Readers will also find fun illustrations of children doing challenging activities interspersed with sketches of astronauts performing job-related duties. The text is large and easy to read for children, with words of importance or encouragement in different fonts and bolded for emphasis.
VERDICT Recommended for libraries that carry other books in the series and those looking to add to their parent-teacher or tough topics sections
