PreS-Gr 3-This new entry in the "What If…?" series presents scenarios that depict human bodies sufficiently fused with dinosaur parts rather than the animal hairs, noses, and tails of its predecessors. Eleven dinosaurs grace the colorful, lively pages side by side with a cartoony kid flaunting the chosen part, such as a windsurfing child sporting a Spinosaurus sail-back or a ravenous and victorious child at a pie-eating contest with an Edmontosaurus's jaws. Along the way, the brief text includes a paragraph about each creature, a fact box, a photo of a relevant fossil, and a sentence describing how the starring body part might be useful to a child. The book ends with praise for "people parts" because "they are exactly what you need to be the one and only you." The narrative is followed by two pages of factoids and a time line.
VERDICT A fun read peppered with information, this title is sure to inspire some madcap discussions in a classroom.-Patricia Manning, formerly at Eastchester Public Library, NY
