PreS-K–Beautiful illustrations vividly capture a variety of young creatures that call the Pacific west coast home. Every animal is displayed with a very short sentence: “Deer fawns hide,” for example, with the species name given in smaller font away from the main text on the page. The animals shown here are full of energy and emotion and the textures of the illustrations provide a sense of animation, as if the animals are practically leaping, pouncing, and diving off the page. Often the young creatures are accompanied by an older caregiver, offering a loving and comforting image of animals in their beautiful surroundings.
VERDICT A lovely and tender introduction to a variety of animals in the region.
