Ivers presents an extensively researched and documented guide to combining high-impact technology and educational practices to support and engage 21st-century learners and offer them real-life learning opportunities. Each chapter discusses practices that return a high rate of student achievement, such as the use of small groups, cooperative learning, social and cultural teaching, global competence, writing, and project- and service-based learning. Ivers summarizes the research and suggests many ways technology can support this type of teaching. She explains how students can demonstrate what they have learned through portfolios of their work, documentation, reflection, and research. Those working with elementary schoolers should note that some of the suggested resources for students and teachers require users to be over the age of 13. The author also includes copyrighted resource pages that can’t be reproduced.
VERDICT While all teachers will appreciate the many resources and descriptions of technology-based projects, the book is particularly well suited for new teachers or those new to implementing these best practices
