Gr 3–7—Charlie is dealing with something really strange. The people of nearby Orville Falls are not themselves—in fact, they are acting like zombies. What has happened to ordinary people to make them act this way, and is it connected to the tonic that they line up for every day outside a mysterious new shop? Charlie, his brother Jack, and his stepmom, Charlotte, investigate, but they have to find the answer soon before the people of their town are the next victims. Segel does a nice job voicing all the different characters and making each distinct. It is not necessary to have read Nightmares! (Delacorte, 2014), but listeners will likely want to go back to fill in the details from Charlie's first adventure. Segel and Miller's story keeps readers interested as they slowly reveal pieces of the puzzle.
VERDICT The secondary story line is resolved a little too easily, but there are just enough loose ends and a cliffhanger epilogue that guarantee listeners will be back for more.
