The Mythics: Heroes Reborn

Gr 5 Up–Several young people all over the world live ordinary lives until extraordinary events alter their fates forever. In Japan, Yuko gains the ability to control electricity and travel through electrical currents. The sole heir to an enormous fortune, Amir, in Egypt, discovers he can harness the powers of the moon and sun. And singer Abigail, in Germany, realizes that her voice can shatter objects. Each of these stories follows a similar trajectory: Mythology-inspired beings from the spirit world appear to guide the teens through their transformations; the protagonists learn that they must use their powers to fight an evil creature, which takes on a disguise; and they track down weapons to defeat evil. The tales move quickly, although they start to feel repetitive. Eye-catching, colorful artwork blends traditional and manga cartoon styles.
