K-Gr 2–Nina is excited for her favorite day of the holiday season: Ravioli Day! This is a time when her family comes together to prepare various pasta dishes and celebrate Christmas with each other. The whole family works to make the pasta and the sauce. Then, the children get to play along the snowy beach of their yacht club, and the adults share stories and fellowship. The illustrations in this picture book are cute and match exactly what is written on the page. They reflect a diverse and festive family celebrating the Christmas season together. Each spread is set up with text on the right side and an image on the left. Overall, it feels more biographical, and others may have a hard time relating to the story.
VERDICT This book would be popular in places with an Italian-centered population or in libraries looking for books about Christmas celebrations from various cultures.
