Gr 2–4—Bean Dog and Nugget play a variety of good-spirited tricks on each other. In this book, Bean Dog says he'd like to know what it is like to be invisible so he asks Nugget to close her eyes-and then he eats the bigger half of the cookie they were about to share. The pages are well spaced and the vocabulary is easy enough for young readers. There is not much action from panel to panel, though, and the simple illustrations mean that each panel looks a lot like the one before it. The characters are not well defined-readers assume that Bean Dog is an anthropomorphized Hot Dog and Nugget is a nugget of some sort, but the childlike illustrations do not provide much insight. With the limited color palette and lack of action, this title relies entirely on dialogue to entertain.—
