Each title goes on to explore these concepts in greater detail using a specific time period or event as an illustrative framework. The first lists the provenance of the illustration. The latter points out details and poses questions designed to encourage critical thinking.
VERDICT Those who serve middle grade readers and can afford only one series this year should make it this one.
