The Big Wig Parade

PreS-Gr 2–In this stomach-turning, giggle-inducing picture book, a group of forest animals tries out increasingly stinky objects in search of the perfect headwear for a parade in which wigs are required. They encounter a flatulent turkey, investigate a pile of unidentified poop, and experiment with a skunk tail before they discover the solution has been with them all along in the form of their rabbit friend’s greasy, disgusting shedded fur. The bunny generously shares, and every animal happily marches in the parade. Cartoonish, zany illustrations complement the narrative’s irreverent tone and subject matter, and dramatic dialogue makes for a maniacally fun read-aloud experience. This quirky title encourages an appreciation of books that are downright hilarious; beneath the veneer of potty humor are uplifting themes of cooperation, sharing, and recognizing the strengths of others.
