The Big Monster Snorey Book

PreS-Gr 2—Loaded with loud colors, shapes, and noises, this work tells the story of a tiny, clever monster who receives a gift on the title page: a small microphone and recording device. The little monster then leads readers through the book to see all the enormous "snorey" monsters snoozing therein. Taking sound samples along the way, the little monster points out a giant, noisy monster sleeping over the expanse of each spread—snorers, knee-knockers, sleep talkers, fidgeters, belly-grumblers, and toe-tappers ("This is TONY. Tony's toes tippy-tap while he dreams. Those terribly tatty toenails make a lot of noise."). At the end of the tour, readers may start to wonder about the little monster's plan and why he is digging a hole with a spoon. When an alarm goes off and the big monsters wake up hungry and want a little monster to eat, everything becomes clear. Hodgkinson uses digital art in a variety of colors, sizes, and designs to create energy within the pages, and the little monster draws readers in closer by engaging with them directly.
