Gr 9 Up—In the early 1800s, Napoleon and his French army occupied Spain while attacking Portugal. The Spanish people grew tired of this invasion and on May 2, 1808 rebelled, launching the Peninsular War. Allied with Great Britain, Portugal fought back along with the Spaniards. The film relates the events of that first day of a multiyear battle. Between historical re-enactments, experts face the camera for interviews in Spanish with English dubbing. Narration during action scenes and still shots is in English. This video would be useful in high school European history courses, but would be unlikely to generate much individual student use in libraries, except for an occasional history buff.—Bernie Morrissey, The Harker School, San Jose, CA
