Teach Boldly: Using Edtech for Social Good

This inclusive, inspiring title invites readers to reflect on the intersections of pedagogy, educational technology, and global citizenship, as well as to take action, both in and out of the classroom. In the opening chapter, Williams (director, Take Action Global) anchors her work in the United Nations’ Universal Declaration of Human Rights and Sustainable Development Goals and advocates for readers to do the same; she also provides an overview of several recommended instructional design frameworks and related activities. The remaining five chapters address prioritizing instructional time, optimizing learning environments to support students, relying on digital storytelling tools to amplify student voices, building partnerships with educational technology developers, and pursuing meaningful professional development. Williams suggests a variety of tech tools and offers practical ideas for using them in instructional spaces, with a consistent focus on centering and empowering students, connecting with others, building empathy, and creating change for the global good. She also emphasizes inquiry-based learning, activism, and digital citizenship, and incorporates vignettes, student work and project samples, and interviews with educators from around the world to illustrate the possibilities.
