Gr 3-6–Thirteen-year-old Clark Kent thinks that saving people is fun and easy and that he wouldn’t mind being a celebrity. His parents worry that showing off his talents will put him in danger, but sometimes Clark’s abilities show up unintentionally. Like when he’s thinking about Lana or enjoying banana cream pudding and he starts to float with happiness. This story combines ordinary events such as Clark starting middle school and making new friends with extraordinary ones, like Clark using his superpowers to perform amazing rescues and figure out who or what is causing chaos all over Smallville. This is a sweet, funny, upbeat superhero tale, enhanced by goofy and colorful illustrations. A Kryptonian key at the end of the book lets kids decode the messages in the book.
VERDICT A fun introduction to Superman for superhero fans, newcomers, and reluctant readers.
