Gr 4–5—This sequel to Seven Sorcerers (S & S, 2011) finds Ninevah Redstone still in The Drift on a quest to find mysterious Simeon Dark's mansion and with it the secret to saving the fantasy world she has come to know and love from the evil Strood. This already complicated premise is further muddled by an army of supporting characters and subplots, some of which are humorous and some that are scary. Readers who enjoyed the first book will enjoy seeing the story to its end, but it cannot stand on its own. Worth purchasing where the earlier book has a following.—Ricca Gaus, New York Public Library
Ninevah Redstone must find Simeon Dark (the last living sorcerer) and stop evil Mr. Strood and his army of Tiger-men from destroying the land of the Drift--but her enemies are ruthless and determined to stop her first. Though overpopulated and frenetically paced, this alternately funny and terrifying story will appeal to fans of the first book, Seven Sorcerers.
