Gr 3–7—When Samantha's Uncle Paul disappears, Samantha knows it's up to her to find him. The only clues she has are her brother's deed to the New York Yankees, her sister's $2.4 million, and a rusty umbrella with a map of secret passages to places around the world. Each clue they find leads them to a deeper mystery, but they're not alone. A group of sewer-dwelling ninjas want their map returned and will stop at nothing to get it back. Will the clues lead to Uncle Paul? Narrators Kathleen McInerney and Grover Gardner bring the engaging characters to life. The transitions between narrators are smooth and easy to follow. The plot is well developed, complex, and full of adventure, with vivid depictions of landmarks such as the Eiffel Tower and Great Wall of China.
VERDICT Fans of "39 Clues" will have fun solving the mystery along with the characters. A must-have for any library collection.–Kira Moody, Salt Lake County Library Services, UT
