On Earth, Inola, Sofi's physically and emotionally distant CEO mother, is grappling with her responsibilities as a parent and a corporate executive. What originally began as Inola's innocent quest for a cure to cancer had become something much more sinister. Had she gone too far in allowing her own children to be genetically engineered? Was Shilo still alive? If so, would Sofi and Shilo understand the extent of their abilities, and would they use them for good? Readers of the previous volume will have a much better grasp of the plot of this fast-paced thriller. Three-dimensional characters are well developed and supportive in this heartbreaking sequel of love and triumph. Questions provided by the author make this a welcome title in ethics discussions. Weber's sequel offers timely explorations of themes of family, compassion, genetic engineering, and human trafficking.
