The brief, lively accounts here are bound to please animal lovers. Gerry describes Lucy, a canine who struggles through her own injuries to get help for her owner following a car accident; Charlie Boy, a German shepherd who assists his owner, a veteran who was blinded in Iraq; and Hooch, a mixed breed with a penchant for skydiving, among others. Numerous asides throughout relate factual material, such as explanations of behavior and details about anatomy.

Although numerous sidebars clutter the design and detract from the flow, the package overall is a treat for dog-lovers.
