Baby-Toddler–Most toddlers end the day with a bedtime routine that is soothing not only to them but to their caregivers. Most of these routines include bath, stories, songs, cuddles, and other special moments between adult and child. Roemer walks readers through an interactive bedtime routine through the use of rhyming text that includes some nonsense phrases such as “Splishity Splash” and “Buggity Boo.” While these phrases are often used to keep the flow of a rhyme, they also make the interactions authentic as most parents can relate to making up words and sounds to delight a young child. Both mother and father are shown as active participants in the bedtime routine and seem to alternate tasks to the delight of their young child. The story ends with our young protagonist fast asleep in his crib. Brightly painted illustrations bring the simple story to life. The father is depicted as white and the mother appears to have brown skin.
VERDICT Recommended for general collection for public libraries as all families will find familiarity within this book. The soothing illustrations, rhyming text, and calm tone makes for an excellent addition to any bedtime routine
