Gr 7 Up—This work opens with a subway bombing in London. Sixteen-year-old K, whose parents were killed in a previous attack, narrowly escapes the bombing herself and is recruited to infiltrate the Brotherhood, the organization responsible for the terrorist attacks, as a secret spy. K soon begins to have doubts, but there is no going back once her former identity is destroyed. This coming-of-age novel is set in a politically tumultuous country, and suspense builds as the plot thickens and K must come to terms with her actions. The audio version, narrated by Melody Grove, is fast-paced, emotionally charged, and exciting. Listeners will feel the tension in Grove's voice as the plot advances, and all of the voices are realistic and appropriate to the characters.
VERDICT An enthralling plot for listeners who like spy novels. ["Recommend this one to teen readers who have tired of dystopias and are looking for something new and different": SLJ 10/15 starred review of the Running Press Teen book.]
