PreS-K—Brantz paints an appealing story that shows readers they can find their place in the universe. A black dot feels small and unimportant, until a narrator shows her where she is needed: on a dalmation, as an eye for a man who has only one, at the end of a question mark, etc. The muted retro illustrations are created in blue, pink, and cool green, with Dot as the eye-catching center of attention. The text location and font size vary from page to page. From far above, readers see a very important dot, Earth, and it becomes clear that dots are a pretty big deal and that everyone is important. A useful story for teaching self-confidence and finding value in seemingly small things.—
