Moonwalk: The Story of the Apollo 11 Moon Landing

This famous mission brought Neil Armstrong, Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin, and Michael Collins to the moon in July 1969. The book begins with President John F. Kennedy's challenge in 1961 to land on the moon before 1970, and concludes with the astronauts' successful return and celebration. Jenkins, an architect, provides readers with details of the engineering involved in creating the vessel: the Saturn V rocket system, the Apollo spacecraft, the command and service modules, and the lunar module Eagle. Readers will gain an appreciation for how delicate this mission was. The majority of the images are altered photographs, with many of the people featured filtered in retro colors. This artistic effect successfully mixes the realism of photography with a 20th-century newspaper vibe. Images of the spacecraft, the moon landing, and the astronauts are presented throughout.
