PreS-K–Eddy is greatly troubled when he discovers that the wheels are missing from his bicycle. His mother explains that his father took off his training wheels and that it is time to learn to ride without them. Mother and son work together that afternoon and Eddy soon starts to get the hang of it. The next day, promised a Popsicle each time he practices riding his bike, Eddy inevitably crashes and vows he’ll never ride his bike again. Told solely through the conversations between Eddy and his parents—Eddy and his mother are Black, while his father is white—this book reads like a script for a one-act play. The illustrations are digital and very basic and flat.
VERDICT Of limited use; an optional purchase for most collections.
