K-Gr 3–Lana Lynn is an adventurous sheep. She comes from a large flock but considers herself the leader of the pack. A new herding/guard dog is said to be on the way, and Lana Lynn is super pumped to work with a new recruit. A wolf shows up and allows the flock to believe that he’s the new watchdog. Wasting no time, Lana Lynn and her friend Shawn the sheep get to work “training” him. After his first exhaustive and failed attempt of moving the sheep from the meadow to the pond, Lana Lynn moves on to lesson two, which is to make sure that he is on guard day and night. “All night long, and the next day, Lana Lynn and Shawn took turns keeping the new watchdog awake.” By the end of the training session, the new “watchdog” takes a quick leave via scooter. A truly adorable new watchdog replaces him. Bright, bold digitally created illustrations fill the entire page. The droll humor will have adults and children laughing at the antics of Lana Lynn.
VERDICT A first purchase for libraries where humor seekers flock.
