It’s St. Patrick’s Day, Chloe Zoe!

K-Gr 3–In this newest addition to Jane Smith’s “Chloe Zoe” series, Chloe Zoe and her friends Mary Margaret and George celebrate their Irish pride by creating leprechaun catchers out of glitter, glue, boxes, and colored paper with the help of Teacher Amy. After all, Chloe Zoe tells readers, legend says that if you catch a leprechaun, you will be granted a wish! Mary Margaret wants a pink unicorn and George plans to wish for candy, but Chloe Zoe has another wish in mind: since Marshmallow the hamster escaped and disappeared, their class needs a new pet. Colored pencil linework and mixed media in bright hues, punctuated by plenty of leprechaun green, invite young readers in while celebrating the legend of the leprechaun, though the origin of the legend is never explained. Illustrations are simple collages and the writing can be clunky, but readers familiar with Chloe Zoe’s world will be glad to see the familiar shapes and colors of their favorite elephant as she embarks on another adventure.
