PreS-K–Feeling hungry can seem an impossible thing to satisfy. For kids learning how to eat, what to eat, what they like, and what they don’t like, this book attempts to explore being hungry with silliness and humor. A cute-but-not-scary monster starts eating pizza, and then proceeds to eat everything in sight—from the pizza box to the table to the mountains to the child reading the book! Gravel’s work here is stand-out, top-notch, and fantastic, providing vibrant fun for young readers. As a board book, it seems worth offering a cautious review: children are apt to put anything in their mouth, such as the trash, tableware, and toilet the monster eats in the book. Because it’s expected children will be viewing the book with a more mature reader, this will be a learn-together about putting non-food things in mouths.
VERDICT An excellent purchase, served up with warnings.
