PreS-K—This bilingual picture book has a pattern that young children will enjoy. From page to page, the penguin displays a great deal of patience as he waits for Mr. Panda to finish baking his treat, or just notice him for that matter. The other animals, who include a llama, an anteater, bunnies, and a fluffy-headed bird, just do not want to wait around and see what Mr. Panda is preparing. The creatures' facial expressions are darling and sure to elicit giggles. The penguin's persistence pays off with a delicious homemade treat. The illustrations greatly enhance the story, and the English and Spanish texts are easily distinguishable by color. This sweet tale would be a great option to compare and contrast with different versions of "The Little Red Hen." Nonfiction titles about the various animals depicted also have extension lesson potential.
VERDICT A tasty must-have for any picture book collection.
