K-Gr 2–Khalilallah’s well-documented photo essay teaches kids some fun responsibilities to help their family around the house. Using Montessori Life Skills experience, the work follows tried-and-true practices through their education programs. The book wonderfully breaks down tasks into bite-size chunks with well-written instructions paired with full-color photos showing children exactly what to do. The tasks in the book—sweeping, mopping, cleaning their rooms, dusting, tending plants, doing laundry, and more—will make a receptive kid feel like a responsible member of the household. Parents and educators will want to work through the book with children, and help them select appropriate tools, to set them up for success, but many tasks will translate to the classroom or library.
VERDICT Recommend this to libraries that have partnerships with special education childhood development programs; this book will build a sense of accomplishment in a child.
