Gr 2–4—When children get bored, it's time to get creative, and what better way to do so than to make crafts? Devos, along with illustrator Thyssen, has created an activity book that will evoke nostalgia in adults and offer fun for kids. The book is very well organized with a table of contents that features crafts broken up by season, a brief introduction about how not to be overwhelmed by the idea of crafting if one isn't creative, and much more. There is a basic overview of what items will be needed, with most being household supplies or things that can be widely purchased. Each activity has a photograph of what the final result should look like along with written and illustrated directions. There are even tips for how to enhance a project to suit one's needs. This book is great for elementary-aged children who want to partake in simple making; however, adult help and supervision will be needed for some of the more complex tools. The directions will also likely require adult assistance because of advanced vocabulary terms, exact measurements, and techniques. That said, most of the projects included can be finished in under an hour and will please users.
VERDICT Large craft collections may want to consider.
