PreS-Gr 2–Princess Truly is back in the ninth installment of Greenawalt’s series for young readers. In the first of three short stories, Princess Truly takes on the coveted role of class leader and role model of the day for Miss Banks’s classroom. Throughout this special day, she leads her friends (and readers) through solving problems and making good choices. The second story is a talent show featuring her nervous pug Sir Noodles, and in the third one, Princess Truly helps some lost ducklings find their mother. Greenawalt’s straightforward language, with rhymes on each spread, makes this an excellent choice not only for fans of the series but also for newly independent readers. Rauscher’s bright colors complement the stories, as the happiness on each character’s face is depicted beautifully throughout. The final pages feature step-by-step instructions for drawing Sir Noodles and encouraging words for kids to create their own story of leadership.
VERDICT Princess Truly proves again to be a good choice for shelves.
