Flooded

PreS-Gr 1–This story begins with a little monkey observing something different on an ostensibly mundane summer day. The monkey goes outside to find it very wet. Walking about, the monkey realizes that the town is flooding and the water keeps rising. All the neighbors are going about their day as usual. Some are going to work, or school, or enjoying leisure activities. The monkey tries to inquire what has happened to cause the flooding, but no one seems to know. Although some characters don’t seem to mind the water, others, especially little animals, are finding it quite difficult to go about their day. Eventually they band together to solve the problems caused by the flood, and in doing so, realize the power of their collective abilities. There is a strong message of teamwork, inclusion, and helping those who cannot help themselves in a crisis. The illustrations are done in ink with digital editing that creates a watercolor effect. The little monkey has a bright yellow tail that makes the character noticeable throughout the book; children will love using this visual element to spot the monkey on each page. It allows for a more interactive experience while reading the story.
