Baby-Toddler–A lovable duck plays with his friends and changes his shoes according to the activity he is taking part in. Red shoes to play with Fred the bear. Blue shoes for when he goes to a restaurant. And green shoes for when he drinks his milk. There doesn’t seem to be a correlation between the activity and the featured color. The need to rhyme is the driving force behind which color is the focus of each spread. Even though the book title is only in Spanish, the narrative itself is in both English (in white font) and Spanish (in black font). When the spread’s featured color is mentioned, it appears in that color with white outline, sometimes making it hard to read. The back copy is only in English. The rhyming is sometimes a little forced, but it works most of the time, though the Spanish is the stronger of the two. Despite its shortcomings, this joy-filled romp will leave smiles on readers’ faces and elicit giggles from little ones.
VERDICT This board book is just the right amount of cute to make it a good purchase for bilingual board book collections.
