Gr 2-6–Bold colors and images that fill each page provide vivid depictions of how 15 different dragons have been described throughout history. As in her previous work (
Dinosaurs?!), Prap uses a chicken family bordering the pages to offer witty comments about the subject matter. Each double-page spread illustrates a unique dragonlike creature from history or myth found in ancient Rome or Greece, Mesopotamia, Native American folklore, or East Asia. A short description of the creature in that culture is given as well as a brief story where the dragon is featured as a character.
VERDICT A lighthearted read about a creature that has fascinated man since the dawn of time. This book is a fun romp and should please readers who yearn for information about the mythical animals.
