The book starts with some of the tools that archeologists use—the “dig” part—before the rest of the book is all about the dinosaurs. An impressive spread shows bones in place out in the field with an exultation of “Dig! Dig! Dig!” The next spread shows a full skeleton of the dinosaur and its name. The following page gives a very brief description along with a picture of what that dinosaur might have looked like. The warmly colored and detailed pictures will be fun for children to examine closely and discuss. There’s a range of specific nomenclature to satisfy budding paleontologists; since interest in dinosaurs for young readers is almost guaranteed, this book should be a popular choice with readers and teachers.
VERDICT A terrific addition to the dinosaur shelf.
